The destruction of heads
Performance, Birmingham, 2015
This is an exploration of deterioration of language based logic. Throughout the performance the language layer moves from clear articulation to moments of inhibition and disintegration and returns something which over time starts to come back and 'make sense'. The captured bodies and props in the projection space begin to display the physical strain on them brought about by the disintegration: the coherent linear flow of their temporality and spatiality is replaced by cycles – stuttering, and ruptures – sudden jumps. The soundscape moves with the bodies and the language – the latter respond to the beats and the drones of the former, but this dance does not enter a full coordination – this medley configures and re-configures itself from moment to moment. Are we inevitably hydra-like creatures? Does the destruction of heads inevitably mean birth of new ones? The destruction of heads is performed with the artist Matthew Springer at the Supersonic festival.
